Water damage
Mold after water damage in Castle Rock, Colorado
Mold needs moisture. Remove the moisture quickly and in most cases it does not take hold. Leave it and the damp drywall can become a second problem.
Calling early helps.

How the timing works
The EPA says water-damaged areas and items should be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth, and that mold will not grow in most cases if they are. It also advises keeping indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent.
Moldy porous materials such as ceiling tiles and carpet are usually thrown out, because the growth is hard to remove completely.
State mold licensing
The pages checked list no state registry or license for mold remediation companies. A 2025 bill, HB25-1202, would have created a registry and was lost in committee on 13 May 2025.
That puts more weight on you. Ask for the contractor's insurance, references, a written scope and what they plan to do about the moisture source.
What not to do
Do not paint or caulk over mold. The EPA says to clean and dry moldy surfaces first.
Water is spreading. Call now.
The call goes to an independent restoration contractor who serves Douglas County. Calling early matters because wet drywall and subfloor start to break down quickly.
